The first question on my physics 1 exam is an important one; that is going to determine how well I do on the rest of my classes. However, it is also a question that is not as simple as it looks. The question states: “How many particles are there in our Universe?” and then states that it is about time. That means that the question itself has a lot more to do with time than it does with the Universe itself, and it should be fairly easy to answer it.
There are two ways to answer “How many particles are there in our Universe?” The first is to just count down the entire universe from infinite to one. Every particle is one of them, and the answer is simple, 1. The second way to solve this is to take the time as an equation and count the amount of time that it takes for the Universe to complete one complete cycle of matter and energy.
In the long run this may not make a lot of sense, but we can see how it can help us. At the end of the universe, the only thing left is the Big Bang. So if the Universe started out with 1 particle per second, it would take 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years for the Universe to complete one cycle.

Ap-physics 1 is a free book that lays out the concepts and the theory of the laws of physics and of the expansion of space. It’s not too long but is very well written. As a physics teacher I can attest that it does make some sense. I’m not sure what they mean by “ap”, but I love it. The book is in ebook format, but you can also find it for free on the AP website.
