I am so excited to be recognized alongside my fellow macalester college alum and former colleague, Dr. David G. Macaulay. He is a retired professor from the history department at Boston College. David, the son of an African-American family, was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 24, 1961. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from Boston College in 1985. He was a professor for eight years and retired in 2016.

David Macaulay was a faculty member at the University of Oregon from 1985 to 1994 where he taught courses in American history, African American history, and African-American studies. In 1994 he moved to the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he became a full professor in the history department. He returned to Boston College in 2002, where he served as the assistant dean of the college’s history, social science, and women’s studies departments. He retired in 2016.

David Macaulay was an African-American historian, who worked as a professor at the University of Oregon. The University of Oregon is located in Eugene, Oregon, and is home to the University of Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame.

Macaulay is one of the few remaining college alumni who is a member of the College Committee. He served as president of the University of Texas in 1976. On his return from the United States at the end of his life, Macaulay was elected to the College Hall of Fame in 1987. Macaulay attended the University of Texas at Austin in 1987. He was a member of the College Committee from 1987 through 1995.

Macaulay also served as an advisor to the president of the United States, George W. Bush, during his presidency. He was a member of the College Committee from 1996 through 2002.
