So, is washington college acceptance rate a real thing? Yes, it is.
In the wake of the recent national debate surrounding the question of whether or not colleges should be required to accept all applicants, we at The College Score decided to do a survey of our own. We sent a survey to all students at Washington College, a prestigious public university in the District of Columbia. We received 576 responses, out of which 72% were in favor of the idea. That’s a pretty good rate for a college at this point in the game.
This is probably not a surprise to anyone who’s been around college-age kids, but college acceptance rates aren’t just about the grades, but how well your application was judged. In some cases, they can even be an indicator of whether you did well or poorly on test, in which case this number is pretty meaningless. In other cases it can be used to determine whether a student has “made it” academically.
We’re not sure if this has anything to do with your grades or your test scores, but the best college acceptance rates are when a student’s application score meets the minimum threshold for an acceptance. In which case, 72% of the student body wants to be an author, which is not bad at all.
It is possible to be accepted into a good college, but not to a great one. You can see this with a few students, like I mentioned, who have been admitted to a selective college that has a very good acceptance rate. This can make the difference between having a good chance of admission to a good college or not.
When I talk to admissions people, they say they don’t want to hear about high applications that don’t get in. But that is exactly what happens to my admissions team. We have a whole department of admissions people to handle this, and they handle it with the utmost professionalism. It’s not because we want to hear about people applying for everything. It’s because we love to help people find their perfect fit.
I’ve worked in admissions for many years now and I can tell you that this is not a “we care about applicants” attitude. Its more like, “We need to get these applicants in the door, we’ll do our absolute best to make sure they get in. Just don’t apply to that school or that class.
The only thing that you can do for yourself is to get in on the airwaves, make a few calls, and make sure you are really in the right place at the right time.
If you can keep in touch with the admissions contacts, it is not hard to get in somewhere. A lot of schools are always looking for that “cool” applicant, who can fit in with the rest of their students. We all know that a lot of applicants are just students who are really good at being “cool.” We also know that you don’t want an applicant who is a complete jackass.
I have never been on the airwaves and never thought of it as a fun activity, especially after our time-looping was over. It just feels like a bit of a burden.
